Rejoice in the Risen Lord Back

Rejoice in the Risen Lord

On March 19th, 2024, as twilight gave way to darkness, Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, came alive with the spirit of Easter. At 7 PM, parishioners gathered in large numbers for the solemn Easter Vigil Mass.

The celebration began with the Blessing of the Paschal Candle, symbolizing the risen Christ. From this flame, individual candles were lit during the Service of the Light, creating a sea of flickering lights that embodied the triumph of light over darkness. As they moved forward, the joyful strains of “Gloria” broke the silence of Lent, ushering in the joy of Easter.

Rev. Fr. Ashwin Aranha, the main celebrant, led the Mass alongside Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis. In his homily, Fr. Ashwin reflected deeply on how we should live our lives. Firstly, we should accept that we are the people of living and resurrected Christ. Secondly, just like Christ resurrected, we are called to lead a pure life. Thirdly, we should be able to express our faith in actions just as we profess our faith in prayer.

The Liturgy of the Word was followed by the blessing of the Baptismal font, where the faithful renewed their Baptismal vows. As consecrated water was sprinkled over the crowd, it served as a reminder of spiritual rebirth and purification. The Liturgy of the Eucharist followed, drawing everyone into deeper communion with Christ.

Towards the end, the church honored the contributions of parishioners by presenting candles as tokens of appreciation. Refreshments were shared by the volunteers.

It was an evening not just of tradition, but of transformation—where faith was renewed, spirits lifted, and hearts filled with the light of the Resurrection.
