YSD–ICYM Derebail Pilgrimage to Thalassery, Kerala

On 19th July, YSD–ICYM Derebail organized a pilgrimage visit to Thalassery, Kerala, with the participation of 20 youth under the guidance of their animator, Mrs. Tina Menezes. The group departed from Mangalore Central Railway Station at 5:00 a.m. by train and arrived at Thalassery Railway Station at around 8:15 a.m. After breakfast, they proceeded to the 9:15 a.m. Holy Mass at the Basilica of St. Teresa of Avila, Mahe, where they prayerfully participated in the Eucharistic celebration.

Following the Holy Mass, the youth had the opportunity to meet Rev. Fr. Sebastian, who warmly welcomed the group. He shared the rich history of the basilica, its remarkable architecture, and the deep devotion of the faithful who visit the shrine. The visit offered the youth a meaningful spiritual experience and a deeper appreciation of this sacred place.

The pilgrimage continued with a brief visit to the riverside walk, where the youth spent time enjoying God's beautiful creation, taking photographs, and strengthening the bonds of friendship through moments of joy and laughter. The group then visited St. Peter's Church, Chalil, where they gathered before the statue of Mother Mary to offer their prayers and seek her intercession. They were warmly received by Rev. Fr. Joseph Kottiyath, who offered a prayer and imparted his blessings upon the group.The youth also visited Thalassery Fort and Holy Rosary Church, Thalassery, taking time to appreciate their historical and spiritual significance.

After lunch at a local restaurant, the pilgrimage concluded with a visit to the scenic Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach. The youth enjoyed the beauty of the shoreline, observed the local fishermen at work, and were delighted to witness dolphins playing in the sea. The day was filled with prayer, fellowship, laughter, and cherished memories, making it a truly memorable pilgrimage that strengthened both faith and friendship among the youth.
