Palm Sunday 2018
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the Holy Week, a week that Christians all over the world spend on recollection of our Lord's great sacrifice and resurrection. Palm sundaycommemorates Jesus's triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The Palm Sunday celebration at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail commenced at 7 AM on the 25th of March, at Holy Family School grounds, Derebail. The coconut Palm symbolic of the olive palm with which Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem was handed over to the Parishioners. This was followed by a procession to the church.
The Eucharistic Celebration followed. Rev Fr Austin along with Fr. Walter Pinto and Fr. Gratian concelebrated the mass. The Gospel recollecting the passion of the Lord was read by the same. Fr. Austin rendered in his sermon the true significance of the Holy Week. The children's choir added to the solemnity of the service.
A Way of the Cross was conducted on the same day at 5 PM at Holy Family School Grounds , Derebail. The Way of the Cross was carried out effectively by the members of the choir. This was followed by a procession to the church with the Cross and statue of Mother Mary. A short prayer service was conducted in the church which also included a reading from the Gospel and sermon by Fr. Austin Peres.
The Palm Sunday thus set a beginning to week of prayer , fasting and recollection.
