Sambhram 2026: Kottara Ward Day Celebration

Kottara ward Day was celebrated on 19th April, 2026 after a gap of two years. This was the 7th ward day celebrated till date.

The day started with a Thanksgiving mass at 7 am led by the children and youth of the ward. 55 members comprising kids, youth, young and old joined the Eucharistic celebration. Mrs. Celine Pinto took responsibility of the Liturgy. 

This was followed by breakfast served at the Church Basement hall to all ward members. The priests, Choir members and altar boys were invited to join.

The cultural programme  "Sambhram" was held at the residence of Mr Ivan & Mrs Jacintha Misquith. The programme started at 6 pm with a  Prayer Dance by the Children & Youth followed by a welcome song by the Women of the ward. Mrs Lavisha Castelino and Mrs Dolly Patrao took the lead in choreography and singing. 

Mr. Michael Dsilva, the ward Gurkar welcomed the gathering. This was followed by honouring Sri Shashidhar Hegde, Corporator, 23rd Ward, Derebail, who was introduced to the audience by Mr. Roshan Vas. 

Five young achievers of the ward : Hency D'souza, Rajesh D'souza, Pearl Lobo, Deanon Lobo and Deona Gonsalves were honoured for their academic and extra curricular achievements.  The roll of honour was read by Mrs. Lavisha Castelino. 

Our outgoing ward representatives Mr. Jeethan Castelino and Mrs. Helen Dsouza were honoured with a shawl and momento. Mrs. Joyce Lobo read a note of gratitude acknowledging their contributions. 

The "Safai Karmacharis" who have been serving our ward,  Sunanda, Yamanur, Mallappa and Prakash were honoured with a shawl, fruit basket and a token of gratitude. Mrs. Celine Pinto read the roll of honour. While honoring them, Mrs. Celine Pinto spoke about the essence of Dignity of Labour and thanked them for their dedication and commitment. 

Mrs. Jyothi Lobo presented the detailed report highlighting the service activities and achievements of the ward in the last two years in Spiritual, Social, Cultural and financial services, both at the ward and parish level. 

Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, Parish Priest and the Chief guest of the evening in his address appreciated the role of Kottara ward, its enthusiasm and unity in every activity undertaken at the parish level. Rev. Fr. Steevan Nelson Peris was present for the celebrations. 

Mr. Denzil Fernandes, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council spoke how the ward was at the forefront of all activities and how he positively envied it. Mrs. Clotilda Dsouza, Secretary and Mrs. Pramila Furtado, Convener were present on the dais. 

Mrs.Monthy Andrade delivered the vote of thanks.

The cultural programme was vibrant and full of talents with dance performances by kids, youth and women. Mrs. Lavisha Castelino and Miss Jassica Misquith dedicated their time and efforts in training the children. 
The group songs by kids, youth and women were melodious and were trained by Mrs. Dolly Patrao and Mrs. Monthy Andrade. Various comedy skits highlighting acting talent of the  kids, youth, men and women showcased the abundant talent in the ward. The highlight of the evening was a short drama titled, 'Wisdom of King Solomon'. This was enacted under the guidance of Mr. Vincent Castelino who trained the actors and also played a key role in the performance. 

Miss Gloria Andrade and Miss Pearl Lobo presided as MCs for the formal and cultural programme. Mr. Ronald Pinto and Mr. Joseph Misquith were Co-Conveners of the Ward day.

The evening ended with a sumptuous dinner,  spot games, fellowship and dance. 

It was an eventful evening to remember and cherish for years to come and was instrumental in increasing the connect and camaraderie amongst Kottara ward members.
