Solemnity of Assumption of Mother Mary and Celebration of 78th Independence Day at Most Holy Redeemer Church Derebail

On August 15th, Catholics worldwide commemorate the Assumption of Mary into Heaven, a significant feast celebrated by attending mass. This date also marks India's 78th Independence Day, adding a sense of patriotism to the day's observances. At Most Holy Redeemer Church, the day began with two masses at 6:15 AM and 7:30 AM, with many parishioners participating in the solemn celebrations.

Following the 7:30 AM mass, the community gathered for a flag-raising ceremony. The event was graced by the presence of Rev. Fr Joseph Martis, the Parish Priest, Assistant Parish Priest Rev. Fr Kevin Dsouza, Parish Council Vice President Smt. Sheela D'Souza, Head of 21 Commissions Mr. Anil Patrao, and Catholic Sabha President Smt. Wilma Monteiro, along with the distinguished guest, Raghavendra M Byndoor, Officer at Kavoor Police Station.

Lenn Sequeira led the formalities, beginning with a communal rendition of "Vande Mataram" by the youth.  Raghavendra M Byndoor was given the honor of hoisting the national flag, followed by the singing of the national anthem. In his address, Raghavendra M Byndoor spoke on the importance of the occasion, which was further emphasized in a short speech by Rev. Fr Joseph Martis.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Smt. Wilma Monteiro, expressing appreciation to the guest and the attendees. The Catholic Sabha generously provided sweets, and Ms. Primal Furtado led the program.
