Derebail Parish Celebrates Vocation Sunday Back

Derebail Parish Celebrates Vocation Sunday

On the occasion of Vocation Sunday, also known as Good Shepherd Sunday, special spiritual programmes were organized at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, to pray for and promote vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

On 24th April 2026, the Holy Mass was celebrated at 5:30 p.m., followed by Adoration as a preparation for Vocation Sunday. The faithful gathered in prayer, seeking God’s guidance and blessings for more vocations from the parish and dedicating themselves to the service of the Lord.

On 26th April 2026, the parish solemnly celebrated Good Shepherd Sunday with the Holy Mass at 9:00 a.m., celebrated by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis. The Vocation Commission took responsibility for organizing the liturgy, which was meaningfully conducted by the children of the parish, adding devotion and enthusiasm to the celebration.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis emphasized the importance of nurturing vocations within families. He encouraged all parishioners to pray earnestly for vocations and urged parents to guide and inspire their children towards priestly and religious life. He also highlighted the importance of speaking positively about priests and religious persons at home so that children may be encouraged to consider dedicating their lives to God.

The Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Steevan Nelson Peris; the Superior of St. Ann’s Convent, Sr. Juliana and Sr. Maria headmistress of St Ann's  school; the Parish Pastoral Vice President, Mr. Denzil Fernandes; Secretary, Mrs. Clotilda D’Souza; and 21 Commissions Coordinator, Mrs. Pramela Furtado, were present for both days’ spiritual celebrations.

The members of the Vocation Commission were actively involved in both days’ celebrations, ensuring the smooth conduct of the liturgy and related activities.

The celebration served as a meaningful reminder of the call to serve and the collective responsibility of the parish community to foster and support vocations. Leaflets containing a prayer for vocations were distributed to the parishioners, and Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis encouraged the congregation to include them in their family prayers.
